How to Install 500i/661 Air cleaner system

AIR CLEANER SYSTEM
Fits Stihl 500i, 661

Installation instructions

  • Remove the chainsaw cover.

  • Remove factory air cleaner and orange sponge bushing from stud.
(661 model only – pull off the round baffle from intake)

  • Push the provided Westcoast Saw black round bushing onto the stud. The flat side should be face down, toward the saw. Ensure that it snaps over the lip at the bottom of the stud.

  • Apply liquid foam filter oil to filter before installation (we recommend Uni Filter or Bel-Ray Foam Filter oil).
DO NOT use spray oil, as it won’t fully penetrate the foam.

  • Squeeze out all excess oil from the foam filter.

  • Next, slide the black cage over the top of the oiled filter.

  • Push the caged filter onto the saw until it sits firmly on the intake base. The stud should be sticking through the center hole.

  • Reinstall the factory cover.

  • When the filter is ready for a cleaning, wash, dry, re-oil, and re-install for another day’s work.

WARNING
YOU MUST OIL FILTER BEFORE USE
Use only liquid foam filter oil!
