Westcoast Saw chain roller provides added strength to prevent your felling dogs from fracturing during use, acting as a reliable chainsaw chain catcher.

FEATURES:

  • Roller is made of Delrin® acetal for improved durability

  • Roller is 3/4" in diameter, allowing for longer wear time

  • Rod is longer than standard, which allows for easier fitment onto saw

  • Stihl-compatible chain catcher

  • All components are Made in the USA

SIZES:

  • Chain Roller 1 1/4 “ Standard

  • Chain Roller 1 ⅜” Long

All felling dog pairs offered on our website have the provisions for the chain roller (except single dog models).

Notes: We guarantee our felling dogs only when running the chain roller on all dual dog setups. Without the chain roller, the outside felling dog is at risk of cracking due to excessive force.

On some STIHL models, the roller may not spin freely when installed. This is due to the thickness of our aftermarket felling spikes. The roller will still operate as it should when the chain is thrown. The tight fitment ensures adequate support of the outside dog.

Installation Tip - Sometimes, the sequence of how the dogs are installed on the saw can cause the bottom hole not perfectly to align with the chain roller. We recommend bolting the inside dog to the case first. Then put the chain roller on the outside dog, then bolt up the outside dog to the clutch cover finger tight. After this, set the clutch cover onto the saw, allowing the chain roller to line up with the inside dog hole and tighten the outside bolts. This should make everything align so that the chain roller fits properly.

Q. Is there a difference between a chain roller and a chain catcher?

A. Despite their seemingly different names, "chain roller" and "chain catcher" are interchangeable in terms of how a chainsaw works. By capturing and rerouting the chainsaw chain while in use, these parts accomplish the same goal of preventing damage or derailing. Whether referred to as a chain roller or a chain catcher, the principal purpose is still to safeguard the saw by directing the chain and providing assistance for the felling dogs when performing demanding cutting duties.

The roller doesn't roll. Although I wouldn't think that matters, since all it does is catch the chain if it comes off.

Great quality but pin is 1/2" to long

I compared this to the standard chain roller sold by Stihl and the pin is about 1/2" longer. After mounting it, the 1/2" allows the pin to stick out well beyond the side case of the saw so I will need to cut and grind it down or it will catch on the wood and sticks.
