Oregon 72CJ is part of the PowerCut product line of professional chainsaw chains.

72CJ is a square ground chisel chain in the skiptooth (full skip) sequence. This chain is similar to standard chisel chain, but the grind on the cutter is angled, which makes it the fastest cutting chain available today. This chain is primarily used for falling big softwood trees on the west coast, but many professional cutters use this chain in the eastern hardwood forests also. This chain is designed to cut in clean, green wood, and any dirt or mud will dull it quickly.

The square ground cutter design can be sharpened with a 3-Corner or double beveled file, but it is very difficult without the use of a guide. Most users sharpen this chain with a chisel chain grinder. Like most Oregon chainsaw chain this style has the LubriTec oiling system to help keep both the bar and chain well lubricated.

Oregon square chisel chain first look and extra rambling [we do this when we get old!]

I have run oregon and sthil as well as husquavarna chains for quite a few years, each chain has slight differences, height , gullet and tooth overall design,. The plot is to figure out which type of filing technique best fits the application. in my opinion square chisel chain works best in wet or live wood, as it is agressive, harder or dry wood in more dirty conditions quickly dull the sharp pointy cutters. and as it takes a little longer to file this type of chain i think this is where a round file type of chain is more appropiate, but also with a change in the filing technique or tooth profile and raker depth and profile. trying to match the chain to the wood so to speak .i saw this a few years ago cleaning up after a fire in our area. i had orioginally used the square chain but wasn't adept at sharpening it so later converted it to round file, but have since learned from your u tube tuitorials how to get it done. i like the chain type .It is not used much in this area of colorado as to the size of trees and the initial complications in sharpening, hex files are hard to find and are very expensive compared to round files, i have never seen a grinder set up for the square chain in my area either. It looks like i will be training a few locals how to sharpen and have referred to your u tube programs. although i have sawed off and on for over 55 years . i have learned a lot from you westcoaster's. You will laugh but the largest pine or fir or spruce i have cut was about 42 inches D.B.H.. Cottonwood is another story
